Prices higher than what had been previously reviewed. We got the guacamole salad and the breakfast burrito. Nice they took us in 10 min to closing. We didn't realize they closed at 8 pm. Good food but not a great place for vegetarians as all their food is cooked with lard including their beans. They looked at us kind of strange when we asked them to please cook the eggs in vegetable oil instead of lard -but were willing to do so. Also, one other bad thing that happened, which could have been an isolated case, was that I had the runs after eating the guacamole salad but the others did not have any issues. maybe I ate too much of the really great tasting salsa. Interior decor could use some cleaning and updating - dusty.

Im sure glad Maria is back in charge as the food and service are back to their previous high standard. I like my enchiladas rolled and not stacked...guess cause I am from California and that's what I am used to and they were accommodating and served them that way and they were pretty darn good. I like the cozy atmosphere and the ample parking. If you want Mexican food in TorC go here and NOT to that fancier place up on the hill on Date street cause they don t know how to cook Mexican food properly.

Pretty average place. The fajita chicken was grilled and that was good. It was recommended by many people and thought it would be better than it was. The chips were very marginal. The tacos were so-so.

For great Mexican food while visiting Truth Or Consequences - and you can't miss the local Mexican cuisine - stop at Maria's! Salsa made fresh daily (and killer - try to stop eating it!), fresh homemade entrees and deserts all served with super friendly local service. I had the shrimp fajitas. Really some of the best that I've had. Topped the meal with homemade cherry empanadas. Really, dining is hard to find in this little tourist town, but not any more.

Went here with my family and I got the chile rellenos. To my surprise, they are battered in egg, which I greatly dislike. I asked the server if I could get tamales instead and told me that she couldn't exchange my meal and that the cooks wouldn't appreciate it. I ended up not eating because the rice and beans that come with the meal tastes awful. I will never be returning and I wouldn't recommend anyone coming here.

this was my favorite place in town to eat for many years. Then the name changed and the owners started changing and food has gone down hill from there. I gave it one more try to day and now i am done. Can it get worse, i wont be going back to find out

First the good: Free refill on pop. Prices reasonable. Waitress very nice and service great. The bad: Lots of flies. Food, which is the main purpose I eat out, was poor. I got the enchilada plate. Enchiladas lousy, refried beans lousy, rice pretty good. Try another place is my recommendation.

We first visited TorC earlier this year and had several meals at Maria's, which were excellent. Back in the area recently, we stopped in - three different times - and were greatly disappointed with the changes in the quality of the food, etc. Plus the prices have increased. The food just does not taste anywhere as good as what we originally experienced, and the wait staff, while polite enough, seem unhappy to be there. We may try again sometime, but at this point we have found another restaurant we like better. Unfortunate, because they seemed to have something good going before.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
